I’m not sure if the US “won” back chip manufacturing so much so as dragged over the leading edge whale manufacturers to the US.

But the real innovation in manufacturing will still be in Korea and Taiwan because the US lacks the industrial commons, and perhaps most critically, those countries do not spread out the industries across multiple states. They cluster an industry together.

The US manufacturing will always be a generation or two behind other countries, until it can cluster industries and people together like the Greater Bay Area of China. Walkable, navigable by public transit, affordable housing, healthcare taken care of.
